Lucy Marandu

My journey is shaped by a unique blend of global perspectives — born and raised in the vibrant culture of Tanzania, and later educated in the United Kingdom, where my horizons expanded in ways I could not have anticipated.

Today I am based in the beautiful city of Barcelona, Spain, where I live with my husband and son. This mix of East African roots, British education, and European life gives me a truly international outlook — one that informs everything I do at Afrilux9.

I created Afrilux9 to help discerning travellers discover Africa's most extraordinary destinations — with the depth and care they deserve.

How We Work

What we cover. Afrilux9 is an editorial guide to Africa's finest places to stay and the journeys built around them. We write about lodges, camps and destinations we believe merit a discerning traveller's attention — and we are candid about trade-offs, seasons and crowds rather than reciting a brochure.

How we research. Our guidance draws on lived knowledge of the region, the published record, and materials and correspondence from the lodges and collections we feature, where they have shared them. Where a property provides words or imagery, we say so and credit them clearly; everything else is our own. We do not claim to have personally stayed everywhere we write about, and we will never invent an experience we have not had.

Independence. Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you book through them — at no extra cost to you. It never changes what we recommend or how plainly we describe it. Our full disclosure sits in the footer of every page.

Keeping it current. Travel detail dates quickly, so we revisit our guidance as things change. This page was last reviewed in June 2026.
